But first, back to the hotel to cool off before dinner.
We had walked about 2 miles during the food tour, and I lost my orientation in the dark and in the maze of streets. It turns out that the Cafe Imperial is only 1 1/2 blocks from our hotel. We liked it so much we decided to go back there.
The maitre d' asked if we wanted a "quick dinner" or a longer dinner. I was going to say we had tickets for a concert at 8 when he helpfully added, "A quick dinner is an hour and a half." Sounds like a plan.
The dinner was even better than the one we had there during the food tour. The service was first class. The bill was reasonable. We were done in exactly 90 minutes.
Thee concert was great. We got there early so we could look around Smetana Hall. It was an Art Nouveau venue - very different from the usual Baroque decor that tends to be present in concert halls - when they are not modern.
The concert was "The Best of Classics." The chamber orchestra "Prague Music" played many familiar pieces for an hour. As soon as they began it was obvious that the hall had amazing acoustics. I know nothing about sound, but even I could tell the acoustics were great.
They played "A Little Night Music," as you may have guessed. They also played pieces by Handel, Vivaldi, Brahms, Pachelbel, Bach, Dvorak and Strauss. I wish they had played Smetana's "Moldau," but you can't have everything. I really enjoyed being able to go to a wonderful concert a five-minute walk from our hotel. Often we don't do anything at night when we travel because a) we are tired, b) it's too much of a hassle c) there isn't anything to do. Not in Prague!
