We are maybe halfway between Greeenland and Newfoundland. It's almost cold enough for icebergs, but I haven't seen any. I think we are in the general area where the Titanic met its fate.
The skies are grey. It's cold and there is a "fresh breeze." That's not as pleasant as it sounds. It would seem to be a euphemism for a moderatley strong wind. Nonetheless, the ocean is hypnotic. I can sit and stare at it for a long time, even though there is nothing to see. It is very calming.
We didn't do all that much today. I went to the Knitter's and Natters Get-Together in the morning. It's enjoyable to chat with the other women while working on my cross-stitch project.
After lunch we met with an Australian couple, Anita and Ian, to get tips about what to do when we are in Sydney next year. They gave us some very helpful information.
After that we went to a movie: Far From the Madding Crowd. I thought it was very good. Ken liked it, too.
In the evening we went to hear Jennifer Fair, a soprano, an opera singer. We have seen her before and we really like her. She has a beautiful voice and she has a lot of stage presence. She is able to make opera accessible to people who don't normally go in for that kind of thing. She also sang a tribute to Edith Piaf. It brought to mind my high school French teacher who used to play Edith Piaf records for the class.
I guess we were too lazy to take any photos today. Oh, well.
Around 5 pm the Captain made an announcement. He said that a low pressure system was coming in and would be causing high winds. As a result, we are not going to be able to call at St. John's, Newfoundland on the 17th. Instead, we will arrive in Halifax in the evening on the 18th and overnight there.
Shortly thereafter the wind began to pick up and continued to worsen during the night.
